Come Talk to Me | Diversity, Equity & Inclusion awareness campaign (personal project)

In the Spring of 2020, social media exploded in solidarity with Black Americans and the George Floyd protests with a call for a literal blackout—to replace our avatars with black squares as a powerful act of visual protest. While emotionally resonant, I wanted to do something more—an action that would have a lasting impact and instigate measurable change in perceptions and behavior. Having served two years on Pearson’s North America Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Advocates team, I was naturally drawn to shift the efforts of white allies from “slacktivism” to activism by inviting dialog, questioning, and learning. The ensuing conversations still echo in my mind, and are ongoing: I welcome friends and strangers alike to come talk to me. If I don’t have the answer, we can find it together.
